Ideal Addition To Any System, I took Sony 8 "(SA-WM250 100-watt) subwoofer active recently, and is very nice (especially for the price under $ 100.00). But this system can not contain a small candle in the Yahama. This 10" system pumps clean , fresh, and its cut-off switch allows the user to limit the upper frequency response of the subwoofer (and let your mid-range speakers to do the job). The result - a little 'solid, well defined bass, which can be as subtle or as "in your face" as you like and that will compliment almost any existing audio well / visual system.
Why spend a couple of small speakers DAA, keep the volume for the subwoofer below 50%, but the cut-off frequency slightly higher (110 Hz at max 140hz) for a well-balanced sound very full. Another interesting feature is a bass-election button to (i) music or (ii) the film. The latter allows for maximum bass response - able to achieve something similar to what you get in the theaters - the low rumble that houses in his stomach. The choices before the music is ideal, and very free with my existing stereo agreement.
If you are not satisfied with the response to the speaker shelf (like more zing?), You will love this Yamaha subwoofer. Will add depth to the existing system and add luster to the actual audio-video installation. I recently reviewed "The Two Towers" on DVD with Yahama - the experience was really like a return to the theater.
